The Memories Collection of Charles Peterson

Charles L. Peterson is an American artist born in 1927. Charles Peterson is primarily known for his mastery of watercolor paintings (The Memories Collection) and for prestigious maritime artwork (The Maritime Collection). He is known for his "ghost image" watercolors." He says, "The memories paintings come directly from what I've experienced and observed since childhood. I suppose you could say they're reflections of my life ... and of the personalities I've known along the way". You can visit his official website. Here are some of his current works.

"Homework" - February 1st, 2002 - Can't you remember coming home after school to sit around the kitchen table having a snack and working on your homework before going out to play. What a great time that was before all our lives got so busy.

"Fishing Buddies" - May 1st, 2002 - More than a grandfather ....more than grandchildren; What Could be better than wetting a line on a warm summer day when the sunnies are biting right off the docks? Only one thing - doing it with Grandpa.

"Flying Solo" - August 1st, 2002 - "Did you see, Mom?
Man, I was flyin' -- all by myself -- ask Tommy!
Did you see me?"

"Piano Lesson"

"Clearing the Field" - February 1st, 2003 - Long rows of stones lining the edges of once plowed fields tell of an investment of time and labor which most of us can scarcely imagine. Generations of farm families worked annually to clear their land of stones brought to the surface by frost and plow. These cairns remain as unintended monuments to the hard wok and dedication required of the entire family in coaxing their livelihood from the soil... producing what is absolutely essential to us all. "Clearing the Field" is my tribute to them.

"Full Service" - May 1st, 2003 - "My kids can't imagine life without a microwave. They laugh at the thought of watching black and white (or, as they say, "grey") TV. And, since it's seldom portrayed in the movies, they're not sure if they should believe my description of what gas stations were like in the "olden days."

"First Love" - August 1st, 2003 - What child doesn't have a "first love" with their horse? Did you have a horse when you were a child? Do you remember the feelings you had for your beloved horse?

"Yesterday's Snow" - November 1st, 2003 - "A classic American activity in a classic American neighborhood in classic Charles Peterson style. Toady and in any time, good old Frosty has a way of bringing us back to the basics of childhood. Truly, the world is a little better place to live because of the contributions of these soft spoken men of snow."

"Recess" - February 1st, 2004 - "Readin, Ritin, Rithmatic and Recess. People often talk about getting back to the 'Three Rs' of the old days. But those of us who were there know there were four, not three. Recess was where we learned about swings and marbles and jump ropes... and people. And Life. Maybe it's a good thing we didn't know how beneficial it was; it may not have been so darn much fun."   Charles Peterson.

"Yard Sale" - November 1st, 2003 - "Once again, Charles L. Peterson has captured and American tradition as only he can. It's a perfect day for a Hey, what the ... isn't that the letter jacket from "One On One"? And the manikin from "Stitch In Time"? Geez! And the old barber from "First Haircut"? This ain't no ordinary Yard Sale!"

"Burning Leaves" - August 1st, 2004 - "Though concerns over global warming have intervened, I miss that wonderful smell of burning leaves, the siren call of childhood, drawing, drawing friends into exuberant display on our way home from school and eliciting friendly exchanges among neighbors ... a quieter celebration of the passing beauty of fall."
